The Benefits Of A Grass Fed Beef Farm

By Minnie Whitley

When it comes to meat consumption, consumers have for long been misled in believing that meat is the same. This implies that no matter the type of feeding provided to the animals, there is no difference as far as the nutritional value of their products is concerned. This is, however, a big fallacy. The fact still remains; the diet that the livestock feed on determines the nutritional status of its produce. This can be evidenced by comparing meat from a grain fed farm with that from a grass fed beef farm.

The disparity in nutrient value is due to the feed and treatment the animals are exposed to. On one hand, the livestock feed solely on grass and foliage. They are not nourished with additives and are allowed to grow naturally. The cattle are not abused by misuse of hormones and other drugs such as antibiotics. They live a natural and healthy life.

Grain fed farms on their part heavily relies on genetically modified organisms such as soy and grain. They have an unnatural approach to animal rearing. The feeds used increases efficiency by boosting productivity. High yields are thus attained at low costs, and within very short span of time. The foodstuffs also incorporate municipal garbage, candy and chicken feather. The method has in fact raised much concern as far as health and environmental conservation is concerned.

The meat and other products provided by the pasture fed animal are unique. The nutritional content is incomparable in addition to their health benefits. Bad fat content is much lower in total. Comparing same chunk of meat from the two feeds reveal a difference of up to one half in aggregate fats. Grass fed meat also has less total cholesterol, saturated fat and calories. However, they level of such healthy substances as beta carotene and vitamin C and vitamin E are exceptionally high.

The natural grown animal also provides you with additional omega 3. This is essential fatty acids that play an important role in each and every cell and system of a human being. They are friendly to not only the heart but also to the blood systems.

The omega fats likewise good for your brain. They lower the rate of attack by depression, hypertension and schizophrenia. The fatty acids are helpful to cancer patients as they prevent the growth of cancer and improve their healing after surgery.

The natural farming is however not simple as it may suggest. The practice is so expensive and demands for a patient, knowledgeable and quite skilled farmer. The farmer is charged with ensuring a constant supply of quality legumes and grass. The soil is crucial in supporting quality plants and feeds and must be nourished with manure.

Although the products resulting from pasture fed farming are nutritious and healthy, consumers often bypass them. They opt for cheap grained products that are readily available. In so doing, they promote the unnatural farming, which degrades the environment and risks their health. Though it saves some coins, be warned that cheap is expensive. Make the right choice, buy healthier products and conserve the environment while promoting the peasant farmer.
