Examples Of Egg Substitute For Vegans

By Pamela Barnes

When people say they are vegetarians, it means they feed mainly on vegetables and foods of plant origin. Some of them do this for medical reasons while some others just have it as a lifestyle. They do not take foods that are cooked with meat, eggs, milk and even fish. Since they do not take some of these things that are important to man, they have a list of what should serve as an alternative. That is why egg substitute for vegans are thought of when it is time to bake items that would normally require some eggs.

An example is an applesauce. Eggs and applesauce can be used just the same way so when one is not available, the other can serve. Because it does not contain fat, it is equally good for those who do not want to gain weight by taking baked foods. Applesauce does not have plenty of calories in it so it remains among the healthiest choices for vegans.

If you think eggs are the best for binding when baking, you are challenged today to try flaxseed. Flaxseed is a good binder and apart from that, its flavor of nuts makes it preferable for whole grain products. You can find them in the market but you have to be careful to avoid the fake ones.

Another product to make an order for when you visit an online store is black salt. Although this has not been so for long, the need for the product increased so manufacturers had to increase their production to meet the increasing market. Now, people who want to eat tofu scrambles, quiches and vegan egg salad can do so and get the same taste that eggs supply in foods like this. Besides, black salt equally has a high sulfur content.

You can also replace eggs with ripe bananas. Just a finger of medium-sized banana will do the same as one egg. Since bananas are generally cheaper, you might prefer this option even if you are not a vegetarian. Ripe bananas are most suitable for black bean brownies so you can try some of them to know how yours is going to taste after preparing them.

Another binding agent to use for baking to replace eggs is tapioca starch. Apart from binding, it also thickens the dough even when a little is used. It is also cheaper since a teaspoon mixed with water thrice its quantity can do the same as an egg. Its thickening ability makes it a useful ingredient in also making vegan mayonnaise.

Another mixture to use apart from eggs is baking soda and vinegar. It gives baked products their fluffiness so that they can look big and more attractive. They are also cheaper in the sense that one teaspoon with three teaspoons of water will do the same as one egg.

Actually, what to use as substitutes for eggs does not end here. Egg substitutes for vegetarians would be anything of plant origin that can act as a leavening agent, improve its structure and make it taste like fat. Some of them have been treated here and they are not expensive. Thus, whenever you want to go for one, choose something that won't cost you much.
