How To Make Your Own Arizona Dry Rub

A dry rub is a mixture of herbs and spices that can be applied to any meat to add flavor. It can be use as a substitute for liquid marinade. Its taste vary based on the ingredients used but all can make any dish more appetizing.

A person who wants his or her own mixture only needs the perfect kind of ingredients to make one. Even though you do not sweat in purchasing a bottle in the supermarket, it is still better to make your own. That way, you can be your own master chef by controlling the taste of your food.

Start by preparing an equal amount of salt and sugar. These two are the most fundamental ingredients in making dry rubs. That is because they are the main sources of flavor. Use your favorite salt and sugar but try to vary their proportion depending on the dish you are preparing.

Dry rubs, especially those that are spicy needs to have a well balanced flavor. In that case, you need to add pepper as your ingredients. If you want the heat mild and easy, use a white pepper. But if you prefer something that has a stronger flavor, black pepper is the best for you. If you want to go extreme on the hotness and flavor of your mixture, ground red pepper will do the trick.

To unite the flavor of your rub, you will need transition spices. Transition spices are not part of the main ingredients but they are essential to attain a flavorful taste. You do not have to measure these spices. You may add as little or as more as you want.

The good thing about making your own rub is that you have the freedom to add more or less ingredients to your mixture. Other ingredients commonly used are paprika, ground coriander seeds and even coffee beans. It is a real wonder how innovative people can be these days. But if you are looking for that distinct flavor, grab some fresh thyme and add them to your mixture. It has this unique characteristic of retaining flavor so it is a big yes to keep your rub flavorful.

Preparing your dry rub is extremely easy. What you need to do is to mix all ingredients together. After rubbing mixture all over your meat, keep it in a refrigerator before cooking it. You can use your mixture anytime you want because they are free from any artificial preservatives. Just remember to use all of them within two to three months to keep it fresh.
