An Introduction To Gourmet Popcorn Denver

By Linda Ruiz

The food we know as popcorn is not something that is generally thought of a substantial. Indeed like bubblegum the term is often used to deride something as empty and lacking in substance. However this does not necessarily have to be the case. Just as a lot of producers have made twists on burgers, hot dogs and so forth there are also gourmet popcorn Denver companies who have produced their own distinct twist on this cinema favourite!

One of the reasons popcorn became associated with the movies was because at the time it was cheap. It came from maize and was a by product of farming. However during the Depression people often lacked the money for meals and there was less employment. Eating snacks and watching movies was a good way to have something inexpensive to eat and to have somewhere to go.

This was at the time of the Depression. Popcorn was effectively a by product of the farming process. Therefore it was cheap and would often be served at the cinema for people who could not really afford to eat a main meal but would be able to afford snacks in the cinema. Even now the food still has an association with cheapness.

In recent times companies have put their own twist on this foodstuff. The main twist is with how it is produced. Unlike their Thirties predecessors this particular brand of corn has been specifically produced with a richer soil. This means that once the corn is popped it can expand from forty to sixty times its original size!

One benefit for choosing a gourmet as opposed to standard variety is the range of flavours. This is especially the case with independent companies who are often bolder and take more risks. While most people will think of either salt covered or sweet you can have endless varieties such as parmesan cheese, sun dried tomato and sweet chilli to name but a few.

Another change is the flavours. Generally speaking the gourmet version will usually avoid artificial toppings. However this should not be confused with a lack of flavour and indeed it is often the opposite as a lot of companies use natural flavours and ingredients to offer a wider array of varieties. These can include flavours such as Thai sweet chilli, pesto or brie!

Some people may avoid eating popcorn because they think it is unhealthy. While this can be true if the snack is topped with butter or salt it does not necessarily have to be. A number of producers deliberately avoid adding butter or salt so that they can market their brand as low fat. Some research even suggests that this particular brand of snack can even aid digestion!

You can purchase gourmet popcorn from a lot of different sources. Brands are often sold in independent cinemas and wholefood stores. Increasingly brands are also sold in grocery stores and supermarkets as well as online. It is worth going online to find out more about local producers and the various brands available as well as getting feedback from reviewers who have sampled them!
